Startup Org Chart Template

Early-stage startups rarely need a deep hierarchy, but they do need clarity. When everyone reports to the founder, decisions queue up behind one person and nobody is sure who owns hiring, releases or customer escalations.

Startup org chart FAQs

When does a startup need an org chart?

As soon as people start asking who to go to for a decision - usually somewhere between 8 and 15 people. Before that, a list of owners per area is often enough.

Should co-founders sit at the same level?

They can share a row, but give each co-founder a clearly separate area. Two people co-owning the same function is the most common source of early startup confusion.

How do I show part-time or freelance roles?

Add them as regular boxes and put “Contract” or “Part-time” in the job role field so they are visible without implying a full-time reporting line.
